Joy and Alexandra met whilst on maternity leave with their first child. Having reached senior positions in the legal and investment management industry respectively, we were concerned that having children risked impacting our career progression and holding us back.

We both returned to work full time following our first child and were anxious to navigate the challenges and to ensure that having children did not hold us back in our progression. In particular, we did not want maternity leave to mean that our careers were put ‘on ice’ or for our colleagues to make assumptions about our approach to our careers following children.
